Victor Moses warmed himself into the heart of Fenerbahçe fan in just 24 minutes as he helped them to a 3-2 win over Yeni Malatyaspor on his debut.
Amazingly it was the first victory for the Yellow-Navy Blue since their 2-0 triumph over Alanyaspor in November, 2018. “I had heard a lot about Fenerbahce fans, but it was really amazing to see them with my own eyes this evening,” Moses said after the game.
The 28-year-old has played for a while following the arrival of Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea at the summer. And it was was a no brainier when he was jumped at the chance to leave Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window.
Moses was successful under Antonio Conte during the Italian reign at Chelsea. He was a flying wing-back and helped the Blues to the premier league title in Conte’s first season and was also a strong figure the following season when they finished runner-up.
But it all suddenly changed when Conte was sacked and replaced by Sarri. The former Napoli man simply did not like Moses and told him clearly that he wasn’t part of his plans for the 2018/19 season. The Nigerian hardly even made the bench on match days.

According to Garth Crooks, Conte transformed Moses from an ordinary player into an outstanding one.
Speaking to the BBC, Crooks said: “I must say Chelsea look far more comfortable with Victor Moses back in the side. He not only provides them with far more options, but he can be quite lethal in the opposition’s penalty area.
Of course, it took an Italian coach to work out that Moses had the potential to be one of the most effective wing-backs in the Premier League, leaving all the other coaches Moses has ever worked with looking rather embarrassed.
Moses has always been decent, but what Conte has done is convert an ordinary player into an outstanding one. What a pity more coaches can’t do the same.”
Although, Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi argued against Conte’s decision, saying that his national teammate, Victor Moses, is not a defender.
Antonio Conte wants him to play as a right wingback but Victor has always played as a right winger,” Mikel told FIFA World Cup Russia Magazine. Victor is young, fast, he is quick, he is strong, he is powerful, he has everything.”
However, it turned out that Conte was right after all as Moses became one of the most sorted right wing-backs in the world. The likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich made signaled their interest but the Blues turned them off. It was a surprise when Sarri refused to give him playing time after a decent World Cup appearance at Russia 2018.
Moses retired from the national team after the Mundial but many feel it was too early for him to call it quits as the team is rebuilding for the future. Old hands like Moses are definitely needed in the team to help their growth.
The former Wigan star was a pivotal part of the Super Eagles squad that won the 2013 African Nations Cup (AFCON) and had the likes of Vincent Enyeama, Joseph Yobo and Mikel Obi to provide the experience needed at the time.
That guidance, Moses can provide for the likes of Alex Iwobi, Moses Simon and Kalu Uche and the Super Eagles maybe signing victory songs in Egypt in June following absence in two consecutive AFCON tournaments.

Victor Moses is a player with lots of qualities. His pacy moves on the flanks give the team a lot of options to attack opponents but the premature retirement changed a lot of things and during the last AFCON qualifying matches, we have adjusted with the players we have.
If he wants to come back, it’s an advantage to the team only if he can attain the standard he puts up in the last installment with the team.
He must show a lots of motivation, he must show that he is fit to play for the team because we have other players playing well in his position now.
Moses has to be strong to come back to the team because we have more options on the wings now like Samuel Kalu, Samuel Chukwueze, Alex Iwobi and Ahmed Musa. All these players are very good on his wings,” Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr said when asked about the possible return of Moses to the Super Eagles.
Moses will be vital for the Super Eagles in Egypt but first he needs to come out of retirement but the good thing is that he is at a club where he will be a super regular and fitness level will be top notch.
